Jang Bong Hwan (Choi Jin Hyuk) works as a chef at the President’s Blue House. One day, his spirit goes into the body of Queen Kim So Yong (Shin Hye Sun) in the Joseon period. Cheoljong (Kim Jung Hyun) is the King and seems easygoing and gentle but he hides many secrets.

Gender Swap:
Jang Bong Hwa (Choi Jin Hyuk) is the youngest chef at the Blue House. He is bold and confident but a womanizer chef. One day after causing the messing at the Blue House he tries to run away from the cops. While running he escapes on his apartment terrace. Meanwhile’ he accidentally falls into his apartment pool unconscious he saw a woman in the water who kissed him. The next day, when he wakes up he finds himself in the body of a Joseon Queen Kim So Yong (Shin Hye Sun).
Find A Way Back:
After stuck in Kim So Yong’s body, Bong Hwa is finding a way to go back to his world. The only option he finds is to go back through the water. She rushes to find the lake with her court lady but she fell on the muddy ground. Bong Hwa is totally stuck in the Joseon period and trying every possible way to go back. When he asks her court lady that where is water from the lake, then she tells her that after she jumps into the lake Grand Queen Dowager took out all the water from the lake. So Yong misses modern food and she decides to win over the Grand Queen Dowager’s heart with food.
Two Faced King:
Cheoljong is the king who is very kind, gentle but he is hiding a deep secret. In the eye of people and his ministers he just the puppet of Grand Queen Dowager. He is planning something big behind the back of Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Jwa Geun. A nightmare that scares him that he will die without doing anything for his people. Prince Yeongpyeong (Yoo Min Kyu) and Hong Byul Gam (Lee Jae Won) are the only people in the palace he trusts the most and they are also helping the king in every possible way.
Joseon Era Politics:
Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Jwa Geun are the ones who have real power and they want to hold the power in their hand. Andong Kim Clan and Pyongyang Jo Clan dominate Joseon politics. Both Clan hates each other but for killing and dethroning the King they both join the hand. Andong Kim leads by Grand Queen Dowager and Pyongyang Jo lead by Queen Dowager. The King can’t take any decision without consulting Grand Queen Dowager.
Joseon Love Triangle:
Cheoljong and Hwa Jin love each other since their childhood days. After the kings married So Yong, Hwa Jin came to the palace as a Concubine and to take care of the king. She loved Cheoljong more than she loved herself and hate So Yong. Because of her hatred toward Queen, she made lots of mistakes which she regret later. She is a great marksman and painter.
Byung In loves the queen and when he finds out that King is trying to kill the woman he loves, he wants the power to protect Queen So Yong. For showing the true color of King’s he joined the hands with Grand Queen Dowager. Meanwhile, So Yong recovers her those when Byung In kissed her and she finds out that he loves her as a woman. She warned her that she doesn’t love him and she has no feeling for him. On the other hand, Byung In still wants to Queen’s side.
So Yong’s memories:
The night So Yong jump into the lake to kill herself she did forget all those memories. She didn’t remember what happened to her that night. Meanwhile, The King desperately wants to find out if So Yong knows anything about that night. So Yong found out that Cheoljong is the one who is trying to kill her. So Yong slowly recovers her memories and her feelings towards the King as well.
Misunderstanding:
Cheoljong thinks that So Yong is with Andong Kim Clan and she is planning revenge on him. Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Jwa Geun are planning to kill kings people by blaming that they try to kill the queen. But Queen saves Concubine Jo Hwa Jin and King’s lives. After that incident, King regrets how he treated Queen and now he decides to trust her. When Cheoljong finds out that Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Jwa Geun want to kill Queen because they find out that she is joined hand with King then he tries to save her.
Trio:
So Yong, Court Lady Choi (Cha Chung Hwa), and Hong Yeon (Chae Seo Eun) are the best trios. Hong Yeon is the maid of So Yong and she was serving her since they were kids. Court Lady Choi is the most frustrated person in Mr. Queen Korean drama because of So Yong’s action. She doesn’t a chance to irritate her Court Lady. Whenever So Yong tells him something serious then they never take that seriously and always think that she is saying that because she is hurt.
Overall Thoughts On Mr. Queen Korean Drama
Mr. Queen Korean drama is one the best historical Korean drama full of romance and comedy. In the drama, many hilarious scenes will grab your attention. Shin Hye Sun is such a versatile actress, she keeps impressing with her character in every drama so far. Every character in the Mr. Queen Korean drama plays their role perfectly.
