How would you feel if you find out that you are just a character of a comic book? And how would you react if you find out that you are the mere extra character of comic book which is drawn by a writer just to support main characters? I might sound funny because this is impossible in the real-world, but possible in the reel world. Yeah yeah, here I am talking about the drama from 2019 Extraordinary You.

In Extraordinary You the writer created a world of Comics and named it secret and his earlier work was Trumpet creeper (Neungsohwa).

Main Characters:

Kim Hye Yoon as Eun Dan Oh

In Extraordinary You Eun Dan-oh plays a role of high school student who is a student at a prestigious academy. She is the child of a rich father with heart diseases. She is engaged with Baek Kyung (Lee Jae-wook) had a crush for the last 10 years.

Ro Woon as Ha Ru/ Number 13

In Extraordinary You Ha-ru played the role of a handsome and nameless extra in Secret that even other characters are not aware of his existence.

Lee Jae Wook as Baek Kyung

In Extraordinary You Baek Kyung played a role of member of the A3, he was super a rude and arrogant person who has an abusive and greedy father and stepmother. He hates Dan-oh but with her just to fulfill his parent’s greed.

Kim Young Dae as Oh Nam Joo

In Extraordinary You Oh Nam-joo is the main lead character of the secret and head of A3. He has feelings for Yeo Joo-da.

Lee Na Eun as Yeo Joo Da

In Extraordinary You Yeo Joo-da is a female lead character of a secret who comes from a poor family. She was supported by Nam-Joo’s mother’s foundation for edition and other expenses. But get bullied by other girls of the school.

Jung Gun Joo as Lee Do Hwa

In Extraordinary You Lee Do-hwa is the second main lead of secret, talented in music, has a crush on Joo-da and he was the third member of A3.

Lee Tae Ri as Jin Mi Chae

Jin Mi Chae (Secret) / Geum Jin-mi (Neungsohwa) is a school cafeteria cook and his nicknamed Dried Squid Fairy by school students. He is the only person who knows about the comic world.

The writer drew the character way he wants them to be, characters do not have control over their words, feelings and actions.

Highlights of Extraordinary You Korean drama

A3:

The A3 a trio of the most handsome and powerful boys in their school. Baek Kyung, Oh Nam-joo and Lee Do-hwa are the members of A3. Beak Kyun who I engaged to Dan-oh and hate her for being sick. Oh Nam-joo is lost in his own world of love. Lee Do-hwa is kind and love Joo da, but cannot express his feelings to her because of writer.

Getting Aware:

Dan-Oh was the one who noticed strange things are happening around her and when she gets aware of herself, she gets to know that she and everyone around her was the character of a comic book, she was dumbstruck when she finds out that she was not the main lead, just an extra character to support main leads. Later Do-hwa also gets aware of himself. When Baek Kyung heard other too saying strange things he also gets aware of himself.

Two Life’s:

Those who are aware of themselves have two life’s one at stage (where they have to act as per the writer’s will) and another is like a shadow (where they can act on their own and what they will do at the shadow only those who are aware will remember.

Foresight:

Dan-oh can see a few future scenes and wants to change them but she couldn’t. Dan-oh wants to change her faith no matter what, when she got aware of herself, she hates the fact that the writer made her love Baek Kyung for years, she thought it was a lame character.

Encounter:

Dan-oh encountered Haru, to her he seems a little different because he has no name so she called him no. 13. Haru saved her multiple times and helped her in changing her faith. Later she came to know that he was also aware of himself and gave him the name Haru. No one knows about his existence because the writer hasn’t created him. Only he can change the scenes created by the writer.

Warning:

Dried Squid Fairy warned both Dan-oh and Haru, he told them that they cannot change things at the stage as per their will and if they do so they have to pay a price.

Price They Paid:

Dan-oh and Haru both have to pay the price for going against the writer’s will. Haru disappeared… Yes, he is gone as if he never exists only Dan-oh Baek Kyung and Do-hwa remember him.

Comeback:

Ha Ru made a comeback in the comic, but this time he has the name Haru and he was loyal to Baek Kyung and he is no more aware of himself.

Tragic Faith:

Dan-oh, Haru and Baek Kyung are the same character from writers earlier comic Neungsohwa, where Dan-oh was  was a former main character and fiancé of Baek Kyung. Haru was  a warrior and Prince Baek Kyung’s personal guard. Baek Kyung was also a former main character, he was a prince and wants to become King. Back then also Haru and Dan-oh are aware of themselves, they tried to change their faith back then but failed.

Regaining Memory:

Haru regains his memories back from the past as well as the present life. He promised Dan-oh that this time he will change her faith for sure.

Love Traingle:

Dan-oh and Haru love each other and Beak Kyung also started liking Dan-oh, who recently discovered that the thing he hates is actually her illness, fear of losing her. Whereas Do-hwa likes Joo-da and Nam-joo likes Joo-da and funny part is Joo-da likes both of them but she makes her choice and chooses Nam-joo.

Scary Future:

Dan-oh saw her dying while doctors are operating on her. She was scared as she knows that his end is near, she wants to spend more time with Haru and asked everyone to hide this from Haru. But eventually, Haru gets to know this, he was very scared as he has already witnessed Dan-oh’s death in the writer’s previous book.

Will he be able to save Dan-oh this time???

Overall Thoughts on Extraordinary You:

I watched Extraordinary You drama recently I guess I have missed so many dramas in 2019 because of other stuff and I’m watching them in 2020. The character has done justice to their roles, the plot is fantastic and I love the story. If you are a fan of fantasies kind of drama then go for it.
