I started watching Melting Me softly Korean drama only due to Ji Chang Wook. It is actually a treat to Ji Chang fans as it is his awaited drama after his return from military duty. We get to see Ji Chang in a great charm after 2 long years.

I got hooked to this drama quickly and really loved the first few episodes. This Rom-Com bridges the generation divide by exploring what age really and how things like love and family transcend in the passing of time. The thawing romance between Ma Dong Chan (Ji Chang Wook) and Go Mi Ran (Won Jin Ah) makes our hearts flutter. Check out Ji Chang Wook latest Drama Backstreet Rookie.

Main Characters:

Ji Chang Wook as Ma Dong Chan

Dong Chan is 32 years old ,a passionate variety show director. Every show he directs is a hit! He is so charming at the same time intelligent. He goes to any extent to get his work done, he wants his variety show to be world-famous.

Won Jin Ah as Go Mi Ran

Mi Ran is 24 yrs old. She is beautiful but she is an unpredictable and cold university student. However, she is a warm And caring older sister to her mentally disabled brother. She does multiple part-time jobs to support her family.

Yoon Se Ah as Na Ha Young

Ha Na Young is a beautiful woman but turns cruel when her love breaks up! She is Dong Chan’s girlfriend and they have decided to marry soon. She works along with Dong Chan. After 20 years, when Dong Chan returns after the experiment she still stays single and waits for him.

Highlights of Melting Me Softly Korean Drama

Two Different Personalities:

Ma Dong Chan (Ji Chang Wook) is a passionate variety show director. He is always short-tempered and an intelligent guy. He has a girlfriend named Na ha Yeon and they were engaged. His family is well settled. Go Mi Ran (Won Jin Ah), a struggling working student who consistently signs up for part-time variety show gigs. She is from a middle-class family and her brother is differently-abled. She had a boyfriend.

Cryogenic Experiment:

Ma Dong Chan wanted to do an innovative variety show and he bent on airing a cryogenics experiment where subjects have been frozen for 24 hours. Due to the lack of volunteers, he steps up as one of the candidates and he convinces Go Min Ra one of the part-timers of the company. Mysterious events take place when the experiment goes live leaving both characters frozen for 20 years. A twist of fate awoke them from their cryogenic sleep in 2019. Will they be able to catch up with the years they’ve lost, adjust to the new world around them, and survive the side effects from an experiment gone wrong?

Life After Experiment:

Mi Ran and Dong Chan wake up separately and they try to settle back into their life as if only one day has passed and constantly wonder why everything is so strange. Then they slowly realized the reality that they have been frozen for the past 20 yrs and they are now in 2019. Dong Chan was very confused as his entire life has changed. His family economy dropped due to a loss in business and there was a drastic change in everyone’s appearance. Go Mi Ran family to the opposite has become so wealthy. Go Mi Ran was frustrated with how much everything has changed in 20 years, so she heads to the broadcast network to demand her 20 years back from Dong Chan.

Another saddest part is that they have to maintain their temperature at 31.5 degrees or else they will die. The antidote formula to save them was only known to a doctor who is in a coma. Dong Chan settles in his company again. He then meets Go Mi Ran after 20 yrs.

First Frozen Man:

Dong Chan in an interview, introduces himself as the First frozen man and soon he becomes a hot topic. Mi Ran been frozen is kept as a secret. Then he set up a job for Mi Ran in his office.

Love:

Dong Chan and Go Mi Ran’s hearts started fluttering, but they ignored them. He gave Go Mi Ran a shot that he got from America to help with the low-temperature issues they have. He also gives her a watch to monitor her body temperature. Then they started working on a program “Gogo Gugu”. Mi Ran and Dong Chan start to look for locations to have the show and end up going deep inside a forest. Their body started to heat up and rain lowered it and at last, they ended up kissing. Then their love story began. They try to be at a distance so that their temperature doesn’t rise up.

Dong Chan also tells Ha Young that he has fallen out of love with her. Then she finds out that he is in love with Mi Ran. So, Ha Young discloses the secret to the world that Mi Ran is another frozen woman. Mi Ran turns embarrassed that everyone came to know the secret, Dong Chan stays with her and comforts her always. There are many cute moments and sizzling kisses in between.

Tragedy:

The doctor says to Dong Chan that this experiment is a failure and everyone who has been frozen will eventually die. The doctor was made to say this by an evil chairman.

Happy Life:

Fast-forwarding for 2 months, Dong Chan and Mi Ran started a YouTube channel and began exploring the world happily together! You can watch this Korean drama on Netflix.

Overall Thoughts on Melting Me Softly:

Reasons For Criticism:

1. The screenplay is very dragging, and the story turned boring in the mid.
2. There were many irrelevant side stories which were quite unnecessary.
3. This is the most awaited drama as it is the comeback drama of Ji Chang after his mandatory Military service. So there were very high hopes but the drama doesn’t match the expectations.
