Meow the secret boy is a short and beautiful Korean drama. This Korean drama is completely different for me where a cat Hong Jo can convert him into a man and fell in love with his owner Kim Sol Ah. She tries to protect the ones she loves. Hence, she attracts many cat-like people. Her father is like a Persian cat, her crush is like a Siamese cat, and other people only make her worry and fuss.

Main Characters:

Kim Myung Soo as Sergei / Hong Jo

Hong Jo can turn himself into human when he is near Sol Ah or when he has her belonging with him. He cannot keep his human form for too long which make him turns back into a cat.

Shin Ye Eun as Kim Sol Ah

Sol Ah is a web designer and she wants to become a web-based comic author and she always has a love-hate relationship with cats. She has a bubbly personality.

Seo Ji Hoon as Lee Jae Sun

Jae Sun had a past relationship with Sol Ah. He’s very prickly guy who is dealing with a lot of trauma from his past. He don’t like to talk much but somehow he is friend with the two loudest people, Sol Ah and Doo Shik.

Yoon Ye Joo as Eun Ji Eun

She is introvert and don’t like to talk with others. Ji Eun had a crush on Go Doo Shik from 10 years.

Kang Hoon as Go Doo Shik

Doo Shik is a dog-like person. Doo Shik is slow-witted but he had very caring heart.

Sol Ah One Sided Love:

Sol Ah had a crush on Jae Sun from her high school. Jae Sun owns a cafe, and he has a sad past. But due to some misunderstanding, Sol Ah and Jae Sun don’t talk with each other. One day, Jae Sun’s ex-girlfriend left his cat (Sergei) to him which he had gifted her. Jae Sun is allergic to cats, so he cannot keep the cat, so Sol Ah decides that she will keep the cat with her even though she doesn’t like a cat. She changes the cat name from Sergei to Hong Jo.

Cat Turn Into Human:

Hong Jo who becomes exceptionally fond of Sol Ah, and he was hiding his human identity from her in order to stay near Sol Ah. Hong Jo comfort her whenever she is in a pain. Sol Ah is also take care of Hong Jo and now started liking him. He becomes human only when he was around Sol Ah or if he has Sol Ah Belongings.

Sol Ah’s Father Remarriage:

One day her father Kim Soo Pyung (Ahn Nae Sang) decided to marry so he wants to sell his apartment. Her father and her step mother Bang Shil (Jo Hye Ryun) decided to live in the countryside because of her father’s health. Her stepmother told Sol Ah to stay in her house, so she decides to live in a place where her stepmother live earlier. And that place is in front of Jae Sun’s cafe, but she doesn’t know that before.

Hong Jo As A Human:

When Hong Jo appears as a human in front of Sol Ah and Jae Sun. She thought he was her stepbrother Bang Gook Bang (Yeon Je Hyung). He starts living a double life with her as a Hong Jo and Bang Gook Bang. When she wants Hong Jo, he became a cat. Hong Jo wants to live with her as a human who can hug her and protect her.

Hong Jo’s New Friend:

He becomes a friend with a street vendor’s grandson Dae Sung (Song Min Jae) whenever he wants to ask questions related to human he asks him like: How to become human? Dae Sung reply if you want to become a human then you should eat garlic… and he eats garlic but then he becomes ill. Then he also started drinking coffee so that he would be with her more and more.

Bang Gook Bang Came Back:

Her stepbrother Bang Gook Bang finally came home, but she was not aware that her real stepbrother was in the home. Bang Gook Bang has long hair and he was sleeping in his bed, when Sol Ah goes in Bang Gook Bang’s room she thought that he has a girlfriend. And here Hong Jo is doing his best so that stepbrother and sister can’t see each other because if they come face to face then he will be caught.

Jae Sun Investigation:

One day, Jae Sun found out that Bang Gook Bang is Hong Jo, who is a cat because ever time Gook Bang goes near Jae Sun he sneezes (allergic to cats). But he didn’t tell Sol Ah about Hong Jo and he decided to keep an eye on Hong Jo.

Jae Sun many times save Hong Jo so that his secret cannot come out in front of Sol Ah. Hong Jo decided to tell Sol Ah, that he is a cat, but one grandmother cat tells him that don’t tell her if you want to stay near her. Because a cat’s life goes faster as compare to human and he was aging faster. Then he decides that he will go after saying goodbye to her.

Sol Ah Knows Hong Jo Secret:

Jae Sun tells Sol Ah, that Hong Jo is disappeared, then she tells him that she knows where he is? When they are on the train Sol Ah tells him that she wants to see the sunset, when she goes there he was near the sea but as a cat then he changes himself as a human when she goes near him.

Sol Ah Accepts Hong Jo:

Slowly Sol Ah accepts Hong Jo and she asks him that if there is anything else he has not told yet. Then he told him a cat’s time goes faster than a human’s so, I will die before you do. She meets him when he was young (kitten) and within a year he becomes an adult.

Aging Hong Jo:

Now Hong Jo is aging, and he was not able to turn himself into a human. Even though he was sick, he didn’t tell Sol Ah that because she was busy in her webtoon and not able to give time to Hong Jo. After some time Sol Ah realizes that all that time Hong Jo was waiting for her and she told him don’t wait for her.

Second Lead:

I really like the second lead of Meow, the secret boy they look cute together. Ji Eun and Doo Shik works in the same office, but doesn’t talk with each other. Ji Eun secretly watches Doo Shik. They both live in the same building, but they don’t know that. Ji Eun secretly watches Doo Shik at the bus stop, then bus arrive and she thought he’s gone but he was waiting for her and noticing her secret moves.

Ji Eun Secret:

She has a Doo Shik eraser from 10 years. Finally, that secret comes out in front of Doo Shik. Ji Eun was not coming into the office and ignoring him. Sol Ah tells him that he should call her and ask if everything is fine. They notice each other at the Doo Shik’s restaurant where she doesn’t know that that restaurant is owned by Doo Shik’s parents.

Ji Eun and Doo Shik Dating:

Then finally, they start dating each other and I personally like the fact that Doo Shik was not trying to change Ji Eun anymore. He wants to tell everyone that they both are dating but Ji Eun thinks that they don’t need to show off their relationship because Sol Ah is having an issue in her relationship.

Hong Jo and Jae Sun relationship:

I like Jae Sun and Hong Jo’s love-hate relationship. Even though Jae Sun knows that Hong Jo is a cat, he still helps him so that his secret doesn’t come out in front of Sol Ah. Whenever Hong Jo wants Jae Sun help, he helps him without any doubt. Hong Jo also helps Jae Sun so that he can talk with his father. Jae Sun is the first person who saves Hong Jo. Hong Jo solves the misunderstanding between Jae Sun and Sol Ah, Jae Sun and his father.

Overall Thoughts on Meow The Secret Boy:

If you hate cats like me, then Meow The Secret Boy will change your perspective towards cats. After watching this drama, I love both cats and dogs. Korean drama is like a human fall in love with a grim reaper, alien, goblin, mermaid, cartoon character, the robot now this time human will fall in love with a cat. But Meow The Secret Boy shows the bond between human and a pet and how they both change each other’s lives.

I love the chemistry between the main leads. Kim Myung Soo played very well cat’s role. This drama is cute and funny at the same time, Highly Recommended if you haven’t watched till now. Maybe in the first few episodes, you felt bored, but stick to this drama till the end. You can also watch this drama on Viki.
